Francisco "Paco" Espinoza Inducted into the Jesus Gonzales Gomez UPHA Caretaker Hall of Fame

The United Professional Horsemen’s Association (UPHA) Jesus Gonzales Gomez Caretaker Hall of Fame award is presented to individuals who demonstrate a long-term dedication to providing exceptional care for show horses. At The Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show, the UPHA is proud to honor Francisco “Paco” Espinoza for his achievements, passion, and unwavering commitment to his craft as the second inductee for 2024 into this prestigious Hall of Fame.

Paco, originally from Michoacán, Mexico, was inspired by his grandfather, a trainer of trick horses. Leaving Mexico, Paco’s journey took him from California to Kentucky, then ultimately to Wisconsin. His story is one of dedication, hard work, and a deep love for the creatures he has spent his life caring for.

While in Kentucky, he had the good fortune to meet Tom Caisse at Kohler Stables, stopping in one day to look for work. While there, Tom asked Paco if he had his lunch, to which Paco replied yes. Tom said, “Then you start today.” That was the beginning of what has become a 27-year tenure, all at Kohler Stables. Over the years, he worked not only for Tom but also for Steve DeBolt, Shirley O’Gorman, and currently with Elizabeth and Mike Murphy, always at Kohler Stables.

If Tom were here today, he would undoubtedly affirm that Paco was his right-hand man, caring for some of the finest HVK-bred Morgans in history. Paco's commitment to excellence shines through his meticulous care of Morgan horses and his enthusiasm for their development and success. The roster of horses he has cared for reads like a who’s who of Morgan show horses, including HVK Bell Flaire, HVK Man About Town, HVK Pavarotti, HVK Carmen, SYP High Definition GCH, HVK Ancient Cry, HVK Make ‘Em Cry, HVK Constantinoble, among others. If you were to ask Paco, he would proudly name HVK Bell Flaire as his all-time favorite.

As we celebrate Paco’s accomplishments, we recognize not only his exceptional skills but also his inspiring leadership, dedication to his craft, and loyalty to Kohler Stables, Kohler Company and the Kohler family. He consistently gives his best and approaches every task—whether caring for a horse or maintaining the stables—with immense pride. His outstanding leadership inspires those around him to seek growth and improvement. The legacy of his life's work within the world he cherishes will motivate future generations of caretakers.

This award not only showcases Paco's achievements but also underscores the crucial role caretakers play in our industry. Without devoted individuals like Paco, the triumphs and victories of our show horses would not be possible. His journey serves as a beacon of inspiration to young caretakers, demonstrating the profound impact that dedication and passion can have on one’s chosen path.

Please join us in celebrating Paco for his remarkable contributions and well-deserved recognition as the latest inductee into the United Professional Horsemen’s Association Jesus Gonzales Gomez Caretaker Hall of Fame.
